Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speaker. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency which is a website with videos and guest posts on the representations of women in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and American feminist media critique. She is the author and director of executive for Feminist Frequency A scholarly non-profit website which explores representations of women within popular culture narratives. Destroying stereotypes about women are her main focus. But, she also explores the issue of specifically targeted harassment online against women and for other groups who are marginalized. Sarkeesian has a Master's degree in political and social thinking from York University. As a public speaker, she is highly sought after and has been a speaker at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. From an early age Sarkeesian was captivated by the issue of gender identity and feminist thought. When she was still in school, in 2009 she started her Feminist Frequency website. She was a young woman with a dream to develop the series of videos on the internet which would explore how gender is represented in video games. However, she became victimized by online harassment. The attack wasn't enough to stop her. Instead, it increased her importance as a feminist and media critique. Her notable contributions to the feminist field were recognized by a variety of prizes. Anita Sarkeesian is an award nominated media critic as well as the founder of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit that explores the representations of women within pop cultural and the narratives that surround them.
