Robyn Rihanna Fenty NH[22 (/ri'aen@(/ri'aen@ (listen) Ree-AN -@;[3][4][n 1] was born on February 20, 1988) is a Barbadian singer, actress and businesswoman. Born in Saint Michael and raised in Bridgetown, Barbados, Rihanna auditioned for American record producer Evan Rogers who invited her to the United States to record demo tapes. She signed with Def Jam in 2005 and quickly became a household name after the release of her debut two studio album, Music of the Sun (2005) and A Girl Like Me (2006). Both were heavily influenced by Caribbean music and made it to the top ten on the US Billboard 200 charts. Good Girl Gone Bad, Rihanna's third studio album, was influenced by dance music. It established her as an iconic sex figure in the music industry. Rihanna got her first Grammy Award for "Umbrella", a chart-topping song which launched Rihanna to international stardom. She continued to blend dance, pop and R&B genres on her next studio albums, Rated R (2009) Loud (2010) and Talk That Talk (2011), and Unapologetic (2012) and the latter of which was her first Billboard 200 number one. The albums were the source of a string of chart-topping singles such as "Rude Boy", "Only Girl (In the World)", "What's My Name? ", "S&M", 'We Found Love', & "Diamonds". Anti (2016), her eighth album was her first album since her departure from Def Jam. It was her second US top-selling album and included the smash hit track "Work". During her musical career, Rihanna has collaborated with several artists, including Drake, Eminem, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Ne-Yo, and Shakira. With sales of over 250 million records across the globe, Rihanna is the second-best-selling female artist of all time. She has been a number-one and has 31 top ten hits in the US as well as a top ten in the UK with 30 songs. Her accolades include nine Grammy Awards, 13 American Music Awards (including the Icon Award), 12 Billboard Music Awards, six Guinness World Records, the NAACP's President's Award, and an Academy Award nomination. Time listed her as one of the 100 most influential persons in the world in 2012, 2018, and 2019. Forbes placed her among the top ten most-paid celebrities in both 2012 and 2014.
